First Stage of Development
Visual Novel, a very easy process given that Game Maker Studio 2 even has an 'extension/program' that already codes a Visual Novel Engine into the game. With AI images we'll have them in no time, AI writing text is phenomenal.
Second Stage of Development
This is the gritty part, I have to manually follow every tutorial on youtube on how to actually make a 3d sprite world using Game Maker. Ultimately I decided to take up the project of an idea I had for making my own harvest moon game, Lots of people have been left in high water with the lack of interest in the fanbase of harvest moon by the developers, and I assure you it is quite a vast fanbase. Old but vast.
Maria the Harvest Moon Character I have turned into this lovely nun, as I find that was to be her calling in the old SNES version of Harvest Moon, so in this you'll have the option to romance a nun, it'll be set in Hot Springs, SD after the First World War mainly because I like to brag about my knowledge of the local history of my state. I had tried to create a fanfiction of Harvest Moon in the past but did not get very far with it.
I've already accumulated a lot of youtube playlists with the instructions for how to add certain elements to gamemaker, and I've been paying a lot of attention to AI to see how it can help in my game. While I could use chatgpt to code the game its not perfect and I feel I should learn the language of the game before I take a chance at trying to find all the wrong actions in ChatGpt. AI does succeed in creating music, you'd never be able to really tell it wasn't composed by a real person.
Here is some concept art I made with AI, I don't intend to use them in the actual game itself except for the backgrounds. The AI was able to make the characters look almost exactly like the ones from Harvest Moon on with consistency on both character appearance and styles
I did make two changes to some of the characters, for example Karen is going to be dressed like a cowboy and not a big city girl. On the other hand Maria(Mary) I changed into being a nun, for the purpose of keeping her closer to her old character
Popuri was easier to do than I thought she would be, the AI really handled the corset well. Though it did have some difficulty creating a red skirt at first, with the right prompts this was easily fixed.
Ann was the easiest for the AI to accomplish, it was a simple set of prompts that led to the creation of this image and it looks pretty much exactly like her from Harvest Moon.
An Inn a good backdrop for a Visual Novel Scene
prompted the AI for an old style building post office and I thought this was the best one it gave me so I kept it, not sure If I'll actually use it in game though.
Elli, there are few in the Harvest Moon world that do not fawn over Elli, I am not one such man, the AI simply could not comprehend a light blue shirt with a dark blue skirt, so it was easier for it to render her with a dark blue blouse and a dark blue skirt, which isn't to off setting and I think looks better anyways.
A little library that I conceptualized was fitted next to the church, its not accurate historically but I am not making the most perfectly accurate historical game, though I try, I have to have some leniency for imagination and the way the AI generates images
Just a small pink bedroom
This is supposed to be the Hot Springs in Hot Springs, it looks nothing like the historical building. Perhaps if I do ever get a lot of money
Maria as a Nun, because in the SNES version of the game she could be found in or about the church, while in the Gameboy version of the game she was literally standing behind the altar. As can be seen in the above image, she even dressed the part of a Nun nack in the day save for the headdress. Maria was my first choice in the older versions of the game as I had such a close connection to my Faith in my childhood which I have since rekindled the Love I have for my Faith in recent years, but Karen became my pick in the 64 version of the game because she had to live with an alcoholic father that liked to yell a lot. As I had to grow up with alcoholic parents with lots of yelling I could empathize with Karen on a very deep level, and I think many children who grew up playing Harvest Moon 64 could as well. I kept the glasses Maria got in her gradual change to Mary the shy introverted librarian as I think it helps add to her character. Also why I plan to establish the library as being part of the Church, that way Maria can both be found at the Library and at Church. Wonderful thinking on my part I like to think.
This had been a game I wanted to make in addition to the medieval fantasy game, the difference between this game and the medieval fantasy game is that the scope of the fantasy game is to big for me to do all by myself. While with this Harvest Moon fan game it already has a fanbase following it and should be received well by the fans given the low quality in recent harvest moon games.
